Oiled oak flooring

Oak floors that feel as good as they look.

Most floor finishes sit on the surface and eventually show it. Oil works the other way. It goes into the wood, hardens within the fibres and protects from the inside out. The result is a floor with no artificial sheen, no surface coating to crack or peel. Just oak that looks exactly as it should.

It works in kitchens, hallways, living rooms, anywhere you need a floor that earns its keep. If something marks it, you treat that spot rather than the whole floor. That kind of practicality is rare in a floor that also looks this good.

A Style to Suit Every Home

We supply oiled oak flooring across a good range of species, widths and finishes. Some customers are after something barely-there, a light natural oil that keeps the wood looking like wood. If you want something richer, a tone that pulls out the deeper notes in the grain. Either way, if you have a specific colour in mind we have a colour matching service that helps you get your perfect flooring.

Need Something Specific?

We work with interior designers, architects and contractors on projects where a standard oil finish from a catalogue isn't quite right. Our design room, colour lab and production facility means we can produce an oiled oak floor to your exact specification. That includes:

  • Bespoke oil tones and custom colour matching
  • Hardwax-oil options for enhanced durability in high-traffic areas
  • Custom board widths and lengths
  • Matching stair parts and accessories
  • Trade and direct residential supply

Information about oiled oak floors

What is oiled oak flooring?

Most floor finishes sit on the surface. Oil doesn't. It goes into the wood fibres, hardens within them and protects from the inside out. No sheen or plastic feel, just oak that looks like oak. The knots and grain are all still there just better protected. Because there's no coating on top to wear through, the floor ages properly rather than deteriorating.

Is oiled oak flooring suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes. The flooring we supply at WFA is engineered, so it's built with layers that keep it stable as floor temperatures change. Solid oak isn't suitable for UFH as it moves too much when it heats and cools and that causes problems over time. Engineered boards deal with it far better, as long as the floor is fitted correctly with the right glue or floating method and expansion gaps are properly considered. Bring the heating up to temperature gradually before and after installation and the two work together well. We can advise on the right spec for your project before you commit, so please ask.

How do you maintain oiled oak flooring?

Keep grit off it and re-oil it occasionally. The usual brush or vacuum does the job, with a damp mop using a proper wood floor cleaner when it needs it. When you re-oil our flooring it feeds the wood and tops up the protection. We advise to do this once or twice a year for busy areas and even less for quieter rooms. You treat the affected area rather than the whole floor, no sanding everything back, no major job. A WFA oiled oak floor, looked after properly, will last for generations.
